Privacy Policy

Lea Fakatonga ("we", "us", or "our") is a mobile app for learning the Tongan language. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights with respect to that information.

Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information when you use the app:

• Email address — collected when you create an account or sign in with Google Sign-In or Apple Sign-In. Used solely for authentication. We do not use your email for marketing purposes. If you use Apple Sign-In with "Hide My Email", we only ever see Apple's private relay address, not your real email.
• Usage analytics — anonymised data about how you interact with the app (screens visited, features used, session duration). Collected through Firebase Analytics. This data does not identify you personally.
• Crash and diagnostic data — when the app crashes or hits an error, Firebase Crashlytics records a diagnostic report (stack trace, device model, operating-system version, and app version) so we can fix the problem. These reports do not include the content of your account.
• Subscription and purchase data — if you subscribe to Premium, we store your subscription status and entitlement so the app can unlock paid content. Payment is handled entirely by the Apple App Store or Google Play; we never receive or store your payment card details.
• Content submissions — word corrections or audio recordings you voluntarily submit through the app. These are stored to improve the app's Tongan language content.

We do not collect your name, phone number, precise location, or payment card details.

How We Use Your Information

• To authenticate your account and save your learning progress (XP, streaks, badges)
• To understand how the app is used so we can improve it
• To diagnose crashes and errors so we can keep the app stable
• To manage your Premium subscription and unlock the content it includes
• To send the optional daily practice reminders you turn on (scheduled on your device; we do not collect a push token)
• To review and apply voluntary word corrections and audio submissions

Firebase Services

Lea Fakatonga is built on Google Firebase. The following Firebase services process your data in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy:

• Firebase Authentication — manages Google and Apple sign-in and account identity
• Cloud Firestore — stores your learning progress, subscription status, and app content
• Firebase Analytics — collects anonymised usage data
• Firebase Crashlytics — collects crash and diagnostic reports
• Cloud Storage — stores audio recordings submitted by community contributors
• Cloud Functions — processes audio contributions and validates subscription purchases server-side

Subscriptions and Purchases

Lea Fakatonga offers an optional Premium subscription. All payments are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play under their own terms and privacy policies — we never see or store your payment card details. When you subscribe or restore a purchase, the store sends us a purchase receipt that our server validates; we then record only your subscription status and entitlement so the app can unlock Premium content. To manage or cancel a subscription, use your Apple App Store or Google Play account settings.

Data Sharing and Sale

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes. Data is shared only with Google Firebase as described above, and with the Apple App Store or Google Play to process subscription payments, and only as necessary to operate the app.

Data Retention

Your account data (email, learning progress) is retained for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us at the address below.

Children's Privacy

Lea Fakatonga is intended for general audiences and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
